When coupled with traditional dendrochronological analyses, carbon isotopes can potentially relay a high-resolution history of localized hydrologic conditions, and highlight intervals of increased tropical cyclone activity and precipitation frequency as well as long-term trends in freshwater availability.</p> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-poster-student-poster"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <div class="field-label-inline-first"> Student Poster:&nbsp;</div> Yes </div> </div> </div> <p><a href="http://asm2009.lternet.edu/2009/posters/using-carbon-isotopes-tree-rings-understand-hydrologic-change-south-florida" target="_blank">read more</a></p> Disturbance Patterns Paleoclimatology Site Science FCE Wed, 15 Jul 2009 20:34:53 +0000 Carrie Rebenack 263 at http://asm2009.lternet.edu Links between summer winds and paleolimnology in the McMurdo Dry Valleys http://asm2009.lternet.edu/2009/posters/links-between-summer-winds-and-paleolimnology-mcmurdo-dry-valleys <div class="field field-type-computed field-field-poster-number"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <div class="field-label-inline-first"> Poster Number:&nbsp;</div> 95 </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-userreference field-field-poster-presenter"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <div class="field-label-inline-first"> Presenter/Primary Author:&nbsp;</div> <a href="http://asm2009.lternet.edu/user/15288" title="View user profile.">Maciek Obryk</a> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-poster-authors"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <div class="field-label-inline-first"> Co-Authors:&nbsp;</div> Peter T. The lakes are formed in endorheic basins enclosed by topographic relief or glaciers. Over the past century, the lakes have experienced an overall trend of continuous lake level rise despite decrease in solar radiation (Doran et al, 2002). Variability/increase of lake levels is caused by the sole water source; melt from nearby glaciers during austral summer months.</p> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-poster-student-poster"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <div class="field-label-inline-first"> Student Poster:&nbsp;</div> Yes </div> </div> </div> <p><a href="http://asm2009.lternet.edu/2009/posters/links-between-summer-winds-and-paleolimnology-mcmurdo-dry-valleys" target="_blank">read more</a></p> Cryosphere Limnology Paleoclimatology Site Science MCM Wed, 01 Jul 2009 15:51:35 +0000 Maciek Obryk 182 at http://asm2009.lternet.edu Paleosol Record of Late Quaternary Wind and Water Erosion and Transport Events, Jornada Basin LTER, Southern New Mexico http://asm2009.lternet.edu/2009/posters/paleosol-record-late-quaternary-wind-and-water-erosion-and-transport-events-jornada-bas <div class="field field-type-computed field-field-poster-number"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <div class="field-label-inline-first"> Poster Number:&nbsp;</div> 56 </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-userreference field-field-poster-presenter"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <div class="field-label-inline-first"> Presenter/Primary Author:&nbsp;</div> <a href="http://asm2009.lternet.edu/users/david-rachal" title="View user profile.">David Rachal</a> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-poster-authors"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <div class="field-label-inline-first"> Co-Authors:&nbsp;</div> Monger, H.C. </div> <div class="field-item even"> <div class="field-label-inline"> Co-Authors:&nbsp;</div> Okin, G.S. </div> </div> </div> <p>Wind and Water erosion are two dominant, interrelated transport processes that influence the dynamics of arid and semi-arid ecosystems. Complex interactions between wind and water erosion and transport events vary across different landscape units, exhibiting varying degrees of dominance; thereby, affecting soil types, topography, and the movement of soil parent material over spatial and temporal scales.
